Subject: Pork Fried Rice ([American] Chinese Restaurant Style)
Security: Public
Mood:cheerfulcheerful

Greetings! I hope this post is ok. I really wanted to share my newly updated and perfected recipe for Pork Fried Rice that completely mimics the Chinese Take-Out I grew up with in Maine. I was really proud of myself for getting this one so right. Who knew I could ever successfully reproduce a restaurant food? (And a common take-out one at that.) So, here's a bento lunch I made this week. >^_^<

The Top Tier contains tonkatsu on a lettuce leaf as a decorative and edible holding cup, and a small salad on another lettuce leaf with tsukemono carrots and an 8ml vial of Light Lime Vinegarette dressing.
The Bottom Tier contains my pork fried rice, with a little koi fish cup of tonkatsu sauce.

Click the cut link for my full recipe for Chinese Restaurant Pork Fried Rice, originally posted at http://cgpbento.livejournal.com/6165.html, and also featured on my profile page. Recently, I was making a couple batches, and on the second I measured everything I put in as I went, so this recipe is no longer base estimation, and in theory could be followed by anyone to achieve the same great results!
I also have a recipe for tonkatsu and tonkatsu sauce posted at http://cgpbento.livejournal.com/5756.html
>^_^< Enjoy!

My friend sent me a package with some cute bento things, so I made a bento to celebrate :) Isn't the little carrot bottle cute? Inside are mini salmon onigiri, artichoke and spinach nuggets, and edamame.

i just joined this community! i have a bento blog called leggo my obento! i've been posting in another bento community here on LJ, but i'll post some of my favorites here.

not to be hating on the carrot sticks and goldfish, but i remember when i first discovered bento i was disappointed in the number of american bento blogs out there that have pictures of pretty uninspiring stuff.. but hey to each their own, right?

books that helped me out a bunch are naomi kijima's bento boxes: japanese meals on the go, japanese homestyle cooking, and japanese family style recipes. minmin's fotolog and cooking cute have been a great source of inspiration as well.

i look forward to participating in this community! thanks!

Hi! I like the concept of this community! I mean, I can't cook, but obviously I didn't decide to buy a bento just to have a new container to add to my 'plastics' shelf in my kitchen. I am no culinary expert, I have no background in cooking, and am a general newbie. My blog is about my explorations with Japanese cooking and bento, as well as cooking in general.

I like this community because I want to be creative, I want to be encouraged, and get ideas from others. I don't have my bento box yet, but when I do I can start posting images. (Hopefully my images will be good, I have the crumiest camera!)

I will be paying for my bento box on friday and about a week from them approximately it will arrive. :3 So exciting! I chose a box that is somewhat traditional, but plastic because I tend to break/damage/crack anything that isn't. This is the bento I am getting. Comes with a bag and chopsticks, I have to learn how to use them.

Anyway, that's me, nice to meet you everybody! :D

This entry was supposed to be about omlette rice. It looks so simple, right? But I still suck at Japanese egg goodness. Twenty minutes into the experiment and I'm recalling the part in Coin Locker Babies where Anemone goes crazy and makes plate after plate of omlette rice and leaves them stacked up on the counter, convinced that none of them are good enough. I'm surrounded by eggshells and my omlette is too brown in the center, and it breaks when I lift it. I had to come up with a way to save the mess, so I chopped it into fine strips, stuffed some of it in an onigiri, and used the rest as a bed, or nest? for it to lie on. Some red pepper makes it cheerful.

tamago something or otherCollapse )

Today I got a shipment of ingredients! Specifically konbu and bonito, so I can make dashi again. I celebrated by making homemade miso soup with wakame and tofu. It came out pretty good. I don’t think I’ll ever use instant miso soup again because this was so easy. Also, cucumber topped with pickled Japanese cucumber, rice with veggie furikake, and apples in honey with sesame seeds for desert :D

xposted a lot ! sry :B
